Drinking Water or Clean Water?

Bulk drinking water delivery or clean water

This is a question we hear a lot. Why type of water do i need? So we would like to help you clarify what type of water you need.

Firstly, Tardis H2O tankers are equipped to deliver clean or quality assured drinking water. What’s the difference?

Defining what type of water you need is dependant on the requirements.

What is Drinking Water?

Drinking water is also known as potable water. It is water safe for drinking and is used for human consumption such as preparation of food. On construction sites, festivals and many events, you will need to provide a drinking water supply. Tardis H2O can provide many drinking water storage solutions.

Now I have established water type of water I need, what is the actual difference?

In regards to the transportation, the actual payload, there is very little in both types of water. Both are drawn from licensed local authority hydrants. However, the difference is in the preparation of the fittings and vessels. The fittings and vessels used are for transporting and storing the payload.

To answer the question on which variant of water you need, you need to ask yourself a few questions.

  • Do we need to drink it?
  • Or is the water for hand washing, toilet flushing and other non-drinking purposes?

If you aren’t drinking it, order clean bulk water.

Even though the intent is not drinking, as we said, we draw from local authority hydrants with licensed standpipes. We preserve the quality of the water that is drawn from the network.

Pre treatment of drinking water before delivery

When it comes to drinking water, there’s quite a lot goes on before our client takes delivery.

Tankers are thoroughly treated prior to filling. That’s the holding tank as well as the hoses and fittings.

If Tardis are supplying the receiving storage vessel. This can be a towable bowser or static tank. These too are thoroughly cleansed before delivery and a seal attached. This must be unbroken when the tanker arrives to fill the vessel.

Drinking water and the storage of same, is regulated by an international standard BS 8551:2015.

For example, even following the procedures mentioned above, the integrity of drinking water must be monitored. This kicks in 48 hours after delivery when testing of the water must be carried out to check for any instance of e coli which can multiply in water stores in uncontrolled conditions.

If you are providing water for people to drink, then responsibility for following these procedures is yours.

Tardis H2O however, can provide on site testing for E coli and a host of other water borne conditions with results verified by UKAS approved laboratories if required.

Where is Clean and Drinking Water used on site?

From our experience, construction uses clean water and where drinking water is concerned, provision is made using bottled water by the pallet or by use of drinking water dispensers, both of which Tardis H2O supplies. In both cases, you are spared the storage worry and testing regime keeping bulk drinking water dictates.

Event organisers tend to opt for bottled drinking by the pallet, as this provides an instant solution for lots of thirsty possibly dehydrated people. Bottles are sealed at the point of supply, preserving the contents.

To summarise

If you don’t need to drink it, order clean water. If you do, be mindful of the post delivery regulations on storage, there to protect those who are drinking stored water.

Clean water is fined for hand washing, toilet flushing and for showering, though testing is recommended after 7 days of uncontrolled storage.
